The on-going series “Wire Paintings” is the culmination of years of life painting in the landscape and drawing in front of the human figure. Now working solely from photo reference, the images emerge from painting the industrial landscape of the Northeast and the fluidity of gestural figure drawing. In combination with using a limited palette and stream of consciousness sketching, I transform the overhead wires into a series of paintings that examine the interstices of light and dark and the shifting perspective of their internal connections. Inspired by the seemingly endless constitutive quality of lines and capturing subconscious characterizations, they reference in their composition and subjectivity a unique blend of what we may or may not recognize within the stream of the wires. The combination of what is to be expected from an artist and what transforms with the slight of hand reveals a hybrid of design and flagrant mishap of imagery.
